Amaza was born in Cape Town, 18 years ago. Her mother was living on the streets and her father was in Pollsmoor prison. At the tender age of 12 months old, she was placed at Nazareth House, a non-profit organisation, which offers a home to neglected or abandoned infants.

When she turned four years old, she was placed in one of our foster homes in Khayelitsha. Amaza has had the same caring foster mother and same foster siblings for the past 14 years. At a time when her life has been so filled with challenges and disappointments, it is incredible how the stability of a loving family home has helped Amaza to reach for her dreams.

 Sadly, Amaza’s mother, was not well after a rough life on the streets and died just before she was able to meet her. She has however, recently met her three siblings and has formed a strong bond with them. She is also in regular touch with her father, who was released from prison a few years ago.

Our experienced social workers spend a lot of time and effort obtaining information about our children’s biological family and where appropriate, arranges carefully planned meetings.

When Amaza was eleven years old, she learnt how to swim for the first time and quickly became a strong swimmer. Just six years later, Amaza joined a life-saving club and was selected for the Western Cape Junior Life Saving team!

 “I have a dream and I plan to stick to it” Amaza says determinedly.

“There have had some hard knocks in my life but I feel blessed to be a resilient person who keeps going no matter what! I am so grateful to Home from Home for the love and support that I have received over the years. Being part of a caring family has made a huge difference to my life.”
